Leafs’ critics are in need of some perspective

-

Letters, the Leafs, May 20

Which hockey team were the letter writers really watching this year? Certainly not the record setting Maple Leafs that I watched.

I have been a Leafs fan since 1954, when my parents bought our first TV and have followed the lows of the late ’50s, the highs of the ’60s, and all the ups and downs since. This year’s version is the most entertaining I have seen since our last Stanley Cup champs in 1967.

Yes, it has been a disappointing 55 years, but with 16 teams entering the playoffs, the odds of success are long anyway, and depend as much on puck-luck and officiating as skill.
