Ex Raptors pick signs in Scarborough

- DOUG SMITH

The Scarborough Shooting Stars, an expansion team that has yet to play its first game in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, announced Tuesday it has signed former Raptors second-round draft pick Jalen Harris to a contract.

He could make his debut when the Shooting Stars open their 2022 CEBL season Thursday in Guelph.

Harris, the 59th pick in the 2020 NBA draft, is currently serving out the final six weeks of a year-long suspension for violating terms of the NBA-NBPA anti-drug program. He is eligible for re-instatement to the NBA on July 1 and figures heavily into the Raptors’ Summer League program.

In 13 NBA games that included two starts, he averaged 7.4 points, 1.3 assists and about 13 minutes per game, with a season-high 31-point game in his hometown of Dallas.

The six-foot-five guard played last season with Cremona of the Italian League, where he averaged 13.8 points and 2.0 assists over 18 games.
