JOHN (HUGH) DUNN
March 14, 1925 ̫ August 14, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce that John died peacefully, at his residence on August 14, 2022, at the age of 97. John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan, of almost 59 years. He is fondly remembered by 3 generations of family members, and many friends all over the world.
John was born in Port-Daniel and grew up in Arvida and the Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec, the eldest of the six sons to Frank and Mabel (McDonald) Dunn. John left home for a post as a secretary in the Navy, supporting the war effort with his communication and organizational skills. He moved to Montreal in 1955, where he met and married Joan. Together they relocated to Toronto in 1980, where they lived for the remainder of their days, both enjoying their careers, and busy social calendar as anyone who knew them would confirm!
John was a loyal employee of John C. Preston Limited for 30 years. His passions included collecting the work of emerging Canadian artists, traveling, exploring global cuisine available throughout Toronto, and attending theatre, ballet, and the symphony. John's passion for music led to his third and most rewarding career as Volunteer Archivist for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, where he spent 25 years supporting the Orchestra's many projects, and most recently, research for the orchestra's Centennial celebrations. Members of Timothy Eaton Memorial Church will remember John as a keen member of the pastoral care and music committees.
As had Joan, John requested that his body be donated to the University of Toronto, School of Anatomy for anatomical studies and medical research, thereby making a unique contribution to the advancement of medicine, and continuing their charitable endeavors.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to The Toronto Symphony Orchestra or the Salvation Army. Special thanks to John's care team at Meighen Manor.
