Pursue your purpose at Tapestry at Village Gate West

This vibrant and engaging seniors’ community offers belonging, independence, wellness, and so much more

With an emphasis on the seven dimensions of wellness as defined by the International Council on Active Aging – intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, vocational, emotional and environmental – Tapestry at Village Gate West is a literal haven for seniors exploring community living or interested in making a lifestyle change.

Recognized multiple times with an ICAA NuStep Beacon Award as one of the 25 bestin-wellness seniors’ communities in North America – one of very few Canadian organizations to have earned this recognition – this exceptional Toronto community has been a draw for active aging retirees since it opened in April 2008.

“From the very beginning of this extensively and carefully planned community, we’ve been inviting and welcoming seniors to experience the Tapestry difference,” says Adena Waffle, Tapestry’s senior vice president.

“While there are a host of factors that make us unique, one of the key differentiators is that we’re committed to collaborating with our residents to create engaging programs that align with the local interests of our residents,” she adds. “We pride ourselves on the Tapestry culture, which is a strong two-way resident/employee engagement that enables employees to work closely with residents and collect their feedback to adapt programs that foster participation. It’s not about us – the employees – doing things for our residents but doing things with them. This ensures that our wellness and community-focused programs remain innovative and enjoyable, and not at all cookie-cutter.”

Tapestry’s commitment to prioritizing their residents’ overall wellness is another significant difference, and Waffle notes that countless studies have highlighted the fact that staying physically and mentally healthy over time requires a conscious and ongoing commitment to daily wellness.

“By staying active, using your brain, eating well, socializing, and engaging across all seven dimensions of wellness to remain independent as long as possible, seniors can strengthen and benefit their short and long-term wellness,” she says. “Ultimately, the feeling of independence is vital to seniors because as we age, we want to make decisions for ourselves and retain control over our lives without decisions having to be made for us. We want to continue to make contributions to others and society and maintain a sense of purpose that makes living fulfilling. The Tapestry lifestyle takes that reality into account and we enable residents to do exactly that.”

While Tapestry at Village Gate West features exceptional community amenities such as a restaurant, pub, fitness centre, swimming pool, billiards lounge, library and a theatre and games room, it also prides itself on offering residents significant options to customize day-to-day life.

“At Tapestry, not only is every community space stunningly designed and accented, residents have a plethora of choices when it comes to many of the features and services they enjoy,” she says. Among them: The choice to drive or enjoy transportation services, to cook in their fully-appointed suite or dine in the onsite restaurant or pub, and to take part in adventures – including the CN Tower Edge Walk and ziplining at the Niagara Gorge – or stay home and relax.

What’s more, the Tapestry team is dedicated to making life as easy and as stress-free as possible from the beginning.

The community offers a unique and complimentary move-in support service. The onsite team will develop custom floorplans, recommend qualified downsizers and movers, support the entire move-in day and follow-up to ensure new residents feel comfortably at home.

If additional health services are needed to maintain a resident’s independence, Tapestry provides assistance in the comfort and discretion of their suite. Services are delivered by health care professionals and include among other services, medication administration, bathing and grooming support, and blood pressure monitoring.

“We’re continually focused on helping residents remain independent,” Waffle says. “The bottom line is that when people want to remain engaged in their lives and continue their passions and share them with others, Tapestry is the place to be,” she adds.

“Whether residents are looking to live completely independently or to make the most of our assisted living program, where they direct their care and work with our wellness manager to select the personalized services that support their independence, we can provide that level of flexibility and choice.”
