Bar Mordecai’s Josh LeBlanc mixes up cocktails inspired by the ‘Succession’ sibs
Josh LeBlanc, one of the co-owners of Bar Mordecai, has been a “Succession” fan from day one — he even learned to play the theme song on piano. “The layers of the family relationships and the business, and the way those things rub together, are fascinating — and often horrifying — to watch,” said LeBlanc. “As someone who has started businesses with family and friends, I can relate on a very, very micro level.”
The Kendall cocktail
“I made Kendall a riff on an Old Fashioned. He wants to be a power player, so I thought he’d like a classic cocktail, but he also perceives himself as edgy, so I made it with Siete Misterios Mezcal instead of whiskey. A Mezcal Old Fashioned would be a way for him to set himself apart from the old guard that surrounds his father. This version is made with clove-infused agave syrup, orange and coffee bitters.”
■ 2 oz Siete Misterios Mezcal
■ 1⁄4 oz clove agave syrup
■ 1 dash coffee bitters
■ 2 dashes Regan’s orange bitters
■ Garnished with an orange twist
The Shiv cocktail
“Since Shiv is pregnant, I went with a non-alcoholic version of an Aperol Spritz, so it looks like a real cocktail. I used Bitter Oro Italiano, which you can find in most fine food markets.”
■ 100 ml Bitter Oro Italiano
■ 3 oz fresh squeezed orange juice
■ 3 oz Grüvi Dry Secco
■ Splash of Perrier
■ Garnished with an orange slice
The Roman cocktail
“Roman would want a drink that would allow him to be a baller, so I chose a Champagne cocktail. To nod to the fact he’s kind of a baby, I added house-made apple soda that we produce at Bar Mordecai: grown-up apple juice for the kiddo.”
■ 1.5 oz Dom Pérignon Brut Rosé
■ 1.5 oz apple soda
■ 1 oz Tio Pepe
■ 3⁄4 oz St-Germain
■ 1⁄2 oz Grand Marnier
■ 1⁄4 oz lemon
