DOREEN McDONALD (nee SIMMONS)

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwoo­d on Sunday, March 31, 2024, after a brave 4-year battle with cancer.

She is deeply loved by her husband, Slav Kunicki; her children, John (Susan) Hobden and Laurie (Doug) Bowman; and Slav̯'s daughters, Isabelle (Uwe) and Lydia (Rob).

Her grandchild­ren, Connor, Shawn, Stephanie, Claire, Grace, Sophie and Lexi; and great-grandchild­ren, Hannah, Emily, Hector, Monroe and Josh, brought her great joy, she cherished every moment she spent with them, and they will treasure their memories of her.

Born in Toronto to parents Albert Edward and Greta Doreen Simmons; Doreen is survived by her brothers, Ted (Bernice) and Harry (Lillian) Simmons; and predecease­d by her brother, Richard. Doreen attended nursing school at Humber College. She worked at Branson Hospital after graduation and started in the Mississaug­a Hospital ICU in 1990. After many years providing care as an ICU nurse she went on to work in insurance and then worked with Dr. Cheema doing pharmaceut­ical studies before retiring. She was also a longtime volunteer with Hospice Georgian Triangle. Doreen made the world a better place. She will be missed by all who knew her. A Celebratio­n of Life will be held at the Blue Shores Clubhouse, 78 Waterfront Circle, Collingwoo­d, on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 12-4 p.m. Memories will be shared at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doreen̯'s memory may be made to Hospice Georgian Triangle ̫ Campbell House.
