Large Brampton home was rebuilt so two families can live together but apart
Location 7741 Churchville Rd., Brampton Price $2.49 million The sellers Five bedrooms, four bathrooms and 4,049 square feet is a lot of house for a family of three. But it’s ideal as a multi-generational home for parents to age in place in separate living quarters. That was the plan when Maneesh and Nisha Kapil bought their spacious home in late 2020.
Thinking Maneesh’s parents would join them there, they did a major redesign and renovation of the above-grade living space, with two bedrooms on the main floor and three on the second.
But their elders decided they weren’t ready to move in after all, leaving the young couple and their two-year-old son with “too much” house.
“It makes us sad that we had to put it up for sale,” says Maneesh. “We built it as a long-term home” with no shortcuts, he adds.
The couple was initially attracted to its location on a well-treed corner lot across from the Credit River in the heart of Churchville, a charming preserved heritage village in Brampton’s southwest corner.
“It’s really nice to sit by the river and bridge and see the ducks and fish right on your doorstep,” says Nisha, who loves enjoying nature with their toddler.
“It’s like you’re living in the country but you’re living in the big city,” adds Maneesh.
Inside, the kitchen and family room, made brighter and more spacious by a vaulted ceiling, is the hub of the home where the couple entertains their large families.
“We spend most of our time there,” says Maneesh.
He explains how they devised a “very unique layout” for the rebuild after gutting the house, which was originally a two-storey cottage built in the late 1940s with a single-storey expansion added in the 1980s.
“We pretty much demolished everything to the bare bones to make it functional in today’s world,” he says of the transformation that took almost two years.
It was designed so the main floor can be left open, as it is currently, or walled off to create two separate units, one of which would be accessible and stair-free.
The realtor: The combination of a big home, main-floor bedrooms and large lot offering a “Muskokalike ambience” in an urban setting is very rare, according to Sumit Sharda of real estate agency The Sharda Group.
“It’s a great aging-in-place property” where two families could live in self-contained units with the addition of a second kitchen, says Sharda, noting the home also has rental potential.
He calls the asking price “very conservative,” given that the highquality reno, which included new mechanicals, cost almost $1 million.
“It wasn’t a quick fix and flip,” he says. “It was meant to be a forever home with no expense spared.”

The young family will “miss the freedom” to pursue outdoor activities, such as hiking on nearby trails, bike rides and park outings, says Nisha.
Maneesh points out that they love the location so much they’re looking for a smaller home “in the exact same area.”
