‘I believe they’re looking for me’

A suspect in a stabbing that left a teenage girl with life-threatening injuries in Mississauga turned himself into a Global News reporter at the scene Friday morning.

It was just after dawn when reporter Jaden Lee-Lincoln arrived at a home where police say three people were stabbed overnight. She saw a man approaching, wearing a ripped camo green windbreaker, jeans and muddy shoes.

“I said, ‘Good morning, sir. Do you live in the area?’” she said, in an interview with the Star later Friday morning.

“He said, ‘I believe they’re looking for me,’ and I just kind of stood in shock.”

She asked the man if he was involved in the stabbing, which he confirmed, and her cameraperson flagged down nearby police officers. Footage from their Global News report shows the man walking toward police, hands behind his head.

“Then he said, ‘Hello officers, I believe you’re looking for me,’” said Lee-Lincoln.

His surrender, which came after multiple stabbings that Peel paramedics say left a teenage girl with life-threatening injuries and an adult man and woman with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, pulled a reporter into a critical moment of a developing criminal investigation.

“Never in a million years did I think I’d be a part of the story,” Lee-Lincoln said. While delivering her news hit minutes later, she described the scene with calm precision — even as off-camera, her hands shook.

Peel police were called to a home on Consort Crescent in the area of Wolfedale Road and Forestwood Drive around 12:48 a.m. The adult woman and man were transported to a local hospital, while the teen was brought to a local trauma centre.

With the man in custody, police say there are no outstanding suspects or ongoing threats to public safety.

As for Lee-Lincoln, she continued to follow the story, providing regular updates to viewers throughout the morning.

“If I wanted my life to be calm and easygoing, I would have gotten a 9 to 5 desk job,” she said, but added, “I’ll tell you, the weekend can’t come soon enough.”
