Video of bru­tal at­tack on el­derly man went vi­ral

A 20-year-old man is sit­ting un­com­fort­ably be­hind bars af­ter a video ap­pear­ing to show him beat­ing up el­derly peo­ple at a Detroit nurs­ing home went vi­ral.

Ac­cord­ing to the Detroit News, the un­named man was ar­rested in con­nec­tion with the assault of an el­derly man at the West­wood Nurs­ing Cen­ter.

The al­leged assault re­port­edly took place on May 15.

In the video, the at­tacker re­peat­edly pum­mels the 75-year-old as he lies in bed.

Orig­i­nally posted on Face­book, the video quickly went vi­ral when it was posted on other so­cial me­dia plat­forms, such as Twit­ter, which sparked much out­rage, in­clud­ing from U.S. Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump.

“Is this even pos­si­ble to be­lieve? Can this be for real? Where is this nurs­ing home, how is the vic­tim do­ing?” Trump tweeted.

“The nurs­ing home was un­aware of the assault un­til they saw the video,” Detroit

Po­lice Chief James Craig said dur­ing a Thurs­day press con­fer­ence. “We are still in­ves­ti­gat­ing that as­pect of the case but we do have a sus­pect in cus­tody.”

News out­let WDIV re­ported that the vic­tim was treated for non-life threat­en­ing in­juries.

The 75-year-old man is re­port­edly a tem­po­rary pa­tient at West­wood Nurs­ing Cen­ter.

“West­wood has been co­op­er­at­ing with the po­lice and will con­tinue to do so. The safety, health and well-be­ing of our res­i­dents re­main a top pri­or­ity of West­wood. We will con­tinue to mon­i­tor the sit­u­a­tion,” said Saif Kas­mikha, an at­tor­ney for the nurs­ing home.

The ac­cused was trans­ported to the Detroit De­ten­tion Cen­ter with­out in­ci­dent.

In a tweet, Detroit Po­lice thanked the pub­lic for bring­ing the in­ci­dent to their at­ten­tion, not­ing that the in­ves­ti­ga­tion was on­go­ing.
