The 100+ Women Who Care of Yarmouth County selected Friends of TNR to receive $9,000 at their 14th meeting.

Although attendance for the March 6 session was quite low, organizers say it was “wonderful” to see some new members.

Friends of TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) is a local group trying to curb the reproduction of feral cats by spaying and neutering one cat at a time.

It relies on donations from animal lovers who share the same dream they do: stopping the overpopulation of cats in the area.

The premise for the giving group works as follows: Prior to each meeting, all chapter members nominate a local, registered, and not for profit charity, but do not lobby for it. Members Rowena d’Entremont and Kendra MacIsaac with Friends of TNR, accept a $9,200 cheque from Rachelle d’Entremont (100+ Women Who Care of Yarmouth) on March 6 at the Rodd Grand Hotel. meet for one hour ( 5: 30– 6: 30 p.m.), four times annually - the first Tuesday in March, June, September and December.

Each member brings $ 100 (cheque or cash) to the meeting. The group listens to pitches from three charities that have been selected in advance from the nominations through a random selection process.

Each member present at the meeting is entitled to one vote. Votes are tallied and the winner takes all.

On Sept. 5 the 100+ Women organization presented the Yarmouth YMCA with $9,200 and on Dec. 5 the Yarmouth Rotary received $9,600.

The next meeting for the 100+ Women Who Care of Yarmouth will be June 5 at the Rodd Grand.
