Investing in Acadian and Francophone community radio
Government is investing $50,000 in Acadian and Francophone community radio stations.
The funding was announced March 14. The contribution will be divided equally among the four radio stations in Clare, Digby Co. (CIFA-FM), Cheticamp, Inverness Co. (CKJM-FM), Isle Madame, Richmond Co. (CITU-FM) and Halifax (CKRH-FM).
“The government is pleased to support initiatives like these to preserve and promote our province’s unique culture and languages,” said Acadian Affairs and Francophonie Minister Lena Metlege Diab. “Our Acadian and Francophone radio stations play a crucial role in the preservation of the French language in Nova Scotia, as well as the promotion and celebration of our vibrant Acadian culture.”
The radio stations also showcase Acadian songwriting, musical and creative talent from Nova Scotia, and allow their listeners – through programming from across Canada and around the world – to connect to other Francophone cultures.
“This is great news for the French community radio stations in Nova Scotia,” said Association des radios communautaires en Atlantique president Rose Madden. “This investment will allow the stations to concentrate on programming to ensure that they remain an important tool for Acadian and Francophone culture in our communities. We are very grateful for the support from the government of Nova Scotia.”
