Clare celebrating 250th anniversary for 2018
Musical comedy telling history of Clare one of many events planned
The Municipality of Clare is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the foundation of Clare this year, having officially launched its celebrations on Jan. 17 at the municipality’s regular council meeting.
Various events and activities will be held to celebrate and commemorate the milestone throughout the year, including the “Clare dans un soir 2” musical comedy in Acadian French that tells the history of Clare.
The Municipality of Clare website and Facebook page will display happenings, including a commemorative wine and a unique legacy project that will take place in upcoming months.
The 2018 Clare Visitor Guide, published in mid- April, will be organized into a checklist of 250 things to do.
Starting later in March, the list will be shared on the Facebook page.
Over the course of 250 years the municipality has maintained close ties with the fishery, its vibrant language and music, and its rich culture.
Clare remains proud of its history. Its many community stakeholders such as Université Sainte-Anne, le Festival acadien de Clare and La Baie en Joie, continue to shape its heritage.
Their contributions, as well as those of many others, past and present, make the community famous for the joie de vivre of its residents, “a wonderful place to live,” says a news release about this year’s celebrations.
The Clare 250th organizing committee is led by employees from the municipality and its partners: Réanne Flynn, community development officer; Pam Doucet, director of community development; Rachel Amirault, communications officer; Larry Peach, tourism manager; La Société acadienne de Clare, Natalie Robichaud, general manager; and Le Festival acadien de Clare, Daniel LeBlanc, executive and artistic director.
