Halloween events on tap for Shelburne County

The Halloween fun is about to ramp up in Shelburne County with a multitude of events on tap in the coming weeks.

The Barrington and Area Chamber of Commerce Spooktacul­ar Fun Run and Walk gets the ball rolling on Oct. 22. The walk begins at 6:30 p.m. from Starboard Inn in Barrington Passage along the multi-use trail to Butler’s Lane and back.

The haunting at the Seaside Heritage Center in Clark’s Harbour begins on Oct. 25. This year, the historic IOOF building has been transforme­d into the Seaside Horror Factory. Oct 26, 27, and the 30 are the other haunt nights, which run from 7 to 9 p.m. “or until the last victim comes through.”

The Seaside Horror Factory will also be open on Oct. 29 for kids’ night. The festivitie­s for the evening will begin with a children’s Halloween costume parade at 6:30 p.m. The parade will start at the legion hall, and continue to the waterfront boardwalk and the ballfield, where there will be prizes drawn for those in costume and treats. In case of rain, the event parade will be held inside the legion.

The Barrington Exhibition Grounds are also being transforme­d into a house of horrors, with The Possession Darkness Lives Inside, being presented by the Barrington Exhibition Committee and Barrington Port LaTour Fire Department. Recommende­d for ages 7 and up, the event opens on Oct. 26, and runs Oct. 27, 29 and 30, starting at 7 p.m.

In Shelburne, the fourth annual Shelburne County Halloween Pet Parade is set to go on Oct. 28 starting at 1 p.m. at Parr and John streets, next to the Shelburne Community Centre. Free registrati­on begins at 12:30 p.m. The parade will be followed by awards and prizes in pet costume categories including most original, most spooky, best dressed owner look alike, best large, best small, and best in show.

On Halloween evening there are several trunk and treat events scheduled in various communitie­s including Shelburne, at the Woods Harbour Wesleyan Church and in Barrington Passage in the Wilson’s Home Hardware parking lot.

It’s also the Witches Night Out in Barrington Passage on Oct. 31. The public is invited to come and watch as the witches start to dance at 6 p.m. on Station Road in front of D M Snow Contractin­g Ltd. Parking is available behind the TB!S Store. The witches will dance every half hour during the evening and there will be treats for the kids.

There are also two Halloween house decorating contests on the go in Shelburne County. In the Town of Shelburne, people are encouraged to nominate houses decked out for Halloween by emailing the civic address to clerk@town.shelburne.ns.ca. Judging will take place Oct 30th.

In the Town of Clark’s Harbour, judging for the first Pumpkin People/Fall House-Lawn decorating contest will be Oct. 29.
