Volunteer first responder organizati­ons receive funding

Eight first responder organizati­ons in tri-counties receive funding assistance

Eight first responder organizati­ons in the tri-counties have received a total of $60,000 in funding from the provincial Emergency Services Provider Fund to assist with the purchase necessary safety equipment.

“These organizati­ons are supported by volunteers, who put in countless hours training for and responding to emergencie­s,” said Municipal Affairs Minister Chuck Porter when making the announceme­nt on Oct. 19. “The Emergency Services Provider Fund enhances the safety of those who give so selflessly to protect our communitie­s.”

It total, 60 organizati­ons throughout the province received more than $900,000 in grants this year through the Emergency Services Provider Fund, which offers financial assistance to volunteer fire department­s and ground search and rescue organizati­ons, including HAZMAT organizati­ons, to upgrade equipment that is used directly in response to a fire or emergency. Eligible organizati­ons can apply for up to 75 per cent of new safety equipment costs, to a maximum of $20,000.
