The Municipality of Shelburne and the Town of Shelburne are teaming up to bring some holiday cheer to eastern Shelburne County residents with a Celebrate Local Campaign, a holiday decorating contest and to start 2019, A New Year’s Levee.

The Celebrate Local Campaign gets underway on Nov. 22 and runs to Dec. 19, with two prize packages up for grabs valued at $250 and $100. Ballot boxes will be in place at participating locations and events. Residents are encouraged to fill out a ballot for a chance to win one of the prizes. The draw will take place at the Municipality’s Holiday Open House on Friday, Dec. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Anyone hosting an event who would like to have a ballot box can contact Val Kean at the Municipality, or Robin Walker, event co-ordinator for the town.

The second annual Holiday Decoration Contest is also underway.

“We are looking for all those beautifully decorated houses and businesses in the municipality and town to register their property to be judged,” said Kean. “Also, this year, with the permission of those registering, we would like to create a map of all the properties to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the holiday lights.”

Kean added the local Girl Guides are excited to be helping with contest judging.

“Last year’s displays were spectacular, I’m looking forward to see what this year will bring,” Kean said.

The house decorating winners will be announced and the prizes awarded at the New Year’s Levee, Jan. 1 at the Trinity United Church Hall from 1 to 3 p.m.
