Panthers go 2-2 in tip-off tourney

Bluenose Academy goes 4-0 to win junior girls tournament at Maple Grove

The host Maple Grove Panthers went 2-2 this past weekend in their home tip-off basketball tournament, with Bluenose Academy from Lunenburg going 4-0 to take the tournament title.

Besides host Maple Grove Education Centre, tri-county teams in the Nov. 16 and 17 tournament included Barrington, which went 1-3 in its four games, and Lockeport, which went 0-4.

Middleton rounded out the tournament’s five-team field.

The following is a summary of tournament action, along with individual highlights for tri-county teams:

FRIDAY, NOV. 16

GAME 5: GAME 6: GAME 7: RUSSELL CUSHING MEMORIAL AWARD

Russell Cushing, who passed away Jan. 24, 2018, had been a member of the Maple Grove coaching team. An award in his memory was presented to a player from each of the teams in this past weekend’s tournament. The award is for players who demonstrate exemplary team spirit, sportsmanship and a love of basketball.
