Maple Grove girls win Hantsport tournament
Panthers defeat host team twice en route to title in junior high hoop tourney
The Maple Grove girls basketball team won all three of their weekend games to take the Hantsport School Tipoff Tournament in Hantsport Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
On Friday, Maple Grove defeated Hantsport 40-36. Player of the game for Maple Grove was Sarah Lyons, The hustle award went to Ivy Cushing and the hardhat award for hard work award went to Janaya Hiltz. Maple Grove high scorers were Janaya Hiltz with 12 points (and whose 10 rebounds earned her a doubledouble) and Sarah Lyons with 10 points.
On Saturday, Maple Grove downed Mahone Bay’s Bayview Community School 47-21. Player of the game was Janaya Hiltz, who had another double-double with a career-high 25 points and 14 steals. Hustle award went to Danica Nakpil. Sarah Lyons wore the hardhat.
Maple Grove posted a 43-21 rematch victory over Hantsport on Saturday. Player of the game was Danica Nakpil, Emma Surette earned the hustle award and Emily Nickerson got the hardhat. Leading scorers for Maple Grove each had a double-double, with Janaya Hiltz scoring 16 points and nabbing 12 rebounds (for her third double-double of the tournament) and Sarah Lyons scoring 10 points and getting 10 rebounds.
Maple Grove’s next games are at the Lockeport Green Wave Tournament Dec. 14-15 and against the Barrington Barons Dec. 19 in Barrington.
