Yarmouth Mariners still in first place
past weekend in their first game after the holiday break.
The Mariners and Lumberjacks were tied 2-2 after the first period of the Jan. 5 game, with goals scored by Matt Barron and Brett Crossley. The Mariners had pulled ahead 4-3 at the end of the second period with two more goals off the sticks, once again, of Barron and Crossley.
South Shore’s Brandon Stone also had a double-goal night, scoring the tie goal for South Shore at 5:55 in the third, which was his second of the night. In OT, South Shore’s Bair Gendunov had the game winner at 4:16 in the overtime frame.
The two teams were virtually even with shots on net, with the Mariners at 32 shots and the Lumberjacks at 31. Alec MacVicar was in net for the Mariners.
