Yarmouth ferry terminal redevelopment project to begin soon
Total cost of project close to $9 million
A large capital construction project is getting underway with a major retrofit of the ferry terminal in Yarmouth.
On Jan. 10, the draft terms of reference for the Yarmouth International Ferry Terminal redevelopment steering committee, for Phase 1 of the project, were approved by Yarmouth town council. This means the committee can now begin work.
The document states staff have been preparing for the commencement and will “hit the ground running.” Many members of the town’s staff team will be working on the project to “ensure success.”
On Sept. 4 last year it was announced three levels of government would contribute more than $9 million in joint funding towards the phase-one redevelopment of the Yarmouth International Ferry Terminal.
The town is committed to $1.4 million and the Municipality of Yarmouth is contributing $1.2 million to the project. The Municipality of Argyle is contributing $300,000. The federal and Nova Scotia governments are each contributing up to $3 million through the Small Communities Fund.
