The Town of Shelburne has put out a call for volunteers to lend a helping hand in planning, organizing and executing community celebrations throughout the coming year.

“Currently, we are looking for people to help out on working groups for various events,” said Robin Walker, events co-ordinator for the town, including Shelburne Celebrates Christmas, Founders’ Days, Giant Pumpkin Festival and the town’s newest event, Art Day.

“We need help with ideas for these events, fundraising, as well as help with set up and take down during the actual event,” Walker said.

“The Guild Hall group is also looking for people who can commit to helping out during the actual shows. This would involve setting up and take down of chairs and equipment and announcing the act that is performing,” she explained.

The lineup for this year’s Guild Hall Series has not been announced yet. The working group will be helping choose which artists will play this year, said Walker.

“It is quite important for people to help with set up of this event. It takes about an hour to set up and take down the event, so it would be great if we could get some help with that,” she said.

The Whirligig Festival Committee and the Shelburne Kayak Festival Society are also currently looking for new members to serve on their boards, added Walker. The Shelburne Kayak Festival Society’s annual general meeting is scheduled for Jan. 30 at the McKay Memorial Library in Shelburne at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend as is anyone interested in joining the board of directors.

Walker said the town is also working on a list of volunteers who can be called to help with events as they arise throughout the year.
