Cleve’s Source for Sports selects Deveau as Athlete of the Month for December

Clare’s Trysten Deveau is the Cleve’s Source for Sports Female Individual Athlete of the Month for December.

The 21-year-old karate athlete from Church Point recently competed at the 2018 North American Cup where she won bronze in the Individual Female Kumite -55kg. The competitio­n took place at the start of December in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Deveau’s success at this event qualified her for the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru.

The December Male Individual Athlete of the Month went to 22-year-old Ryan O’Neil. The Halifax karate athlete won bronze in the Individual Male Kumite -67kg at the 2018 North American Cup last month. O’Neil’s performanc­e earned him a spot at the 2019 Pan Am Games in Peru next summer.

The Athlete of the Month program is administer­ed by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
