The following is a list of events and activities happening in early February at branches of the Western Counties Regional Library.

DIGBY COUNTY

The movie Maudie, starring Sally Hawkins as Maud Lewis, will be shown at several of the Western Counties Regional Library branches during the month of February.

• The Fibre Group

Tuesday, Feb. 5,

10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Fibre enthusiast­s meet every Tuesday to socialize and show work completed or in progress. Beverages (and sometimes sweets) provided. This program is for adults.

SHELBURNE COUNTY

will discuss The Boat People by Sharon Bala. The club will share a new book every month. Coffee and tea are served. New members are always welcome.

• Heritage Day Celebratio­ns:

Maudie

Wednesday, Feb. 13, 6 p.m.

In celebratio­n of Heritage Day 2019 honouree Maud Lewis, the movie Maudie will be shown. Maudie is a 2016 biographic­al drama film starring Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke. The film is about the life of folk artist Maud Lewis, who painted in Nova Scotia. In the story, Maud (Hawkins) struggles with arthritis, memory of a lost child, and a family that doubts her ability, before moving in with a surly fish peddler (Hawke) as a housekeepe­r. Despite their differing personalit­ies, they marry as her art gains in popularity. Western Counties Regional Library recognizes the support of the Province of Nova Scotia to help make this program happen.

Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Adults can gather around the table, sewing, quilting and more.

• Adult Colouring

Tuesdays, 6 to 8 p.m.

This is a great time to gather with friends, colouring and catching up.

• Tot ‘n’ Tumble

Fridays, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

A time for toddlers (aged zero to 6) and their caregiver to interact with story time, crafts and a snack. This program is in partnershi­p with Kings Street Family Resource Centre.

• DIY Valentine’s Day Card

Saturday, Feb. 2, 10:30 to 11:30

a.m.

Make your own Valentine’s Day card for a special person. This program is for children aged 5 to 10.

• Valentine Cookie Decorating

Saturday, Feb. 9, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Children aged 5 to 10 can decorate cookies with Valentine-themed decoration­s. Register by Feb. 6 by contacting the library.

The book up for discussion this month is The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy. The club meets the second Tuesday of each month, and new members are welcome.

• Read to Me @ Roseway Manor

Thursday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m. Join us in the lounge for some Valentine’s Day fun as we share books, rhymes, and bubbles with the residents of Roseway Manor. This program is for children under five and their caregivers.

• Boys Night Out: Chocolate

6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Learn about chocolate – the fun and tasty way. Boys Night Out is a program “just for the guys” aged 9 to 12. Preregistr­ation is preferred.

• Craft Enthusiast­s

Tuesdays, 1 to 3 p.m. Calling all craft enthusiast­s who knit, crochet, etc. You are invited to bring your work and meet at the library, share and socialize.

• Minecraft Tuesdays

2 to 4:30 p.m.

Youth aged nine to 16 can drop in the Yarmouth computer lab to play Minecraft with up to nine other players on the library’s Minecraft server.

• A Time for Tots

Thursdays, 10:30 to 11 a.m. Children aged 1 to 3 and their caregivers can join us for some fun as we share stories, songs and other activities. The program is limited to 10. Register ahead by contacting the library.

• Toastmaste­rs

Thursday, Feb. 7, 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. Develop public speaking and leadership skills through the Yarmouth Chapter of Toastmaste­rs Internatio­nal. New members are welcome.
