New board elected for Wedgeport Legion

A new executive board for the Wedgeport Legion Branch 155 was elected for two-year terms at the regular monthly meeting on Jan. 16.

Clinton Saulnier was elected president unopposed. As vicepresid­ent he was acting president since president Bernard Boudreau died April 28, 2018. Saulnier has been active for many years as a legionnair­e in the Wedgeport Legion.

Curtis Doucet was elected by secret ballot first vice-president while Joseph R. Waitkus was elected unopposed second vicepresid­ent. André Boudreau was re-elected secretary while John Doucette was elected treasurer. Both were unopposed. Doucette is a new member on the executive and is active in the 110 Yarmouth Army Cadets Corps. Ulysses Cottreau was president of the nomination committee.

Gerald MacKenzie will also serve on the executive as past president.

All the above were sworn in by District E Commander and Legion 155 member Don McCumber. Also sworn in were: John Surette as appointed chaplain and Jeff LeBlanc as appointed Service Officer. Roland LeBlanc, the appointed Sergeant at Arms, was absent and will be sworn in at the next meeting. There are at least four other appointed members on the executive having accepted specified legion functions.

Gerald MacKenzie, as president of the activities committee, announced he was stepping down for personal reasons. He announced Gary Hansen will replace him. MacKenzie also listed the 2019 fundraisin­g activities such as monthly wing nights, food take-outs or suppers, breakfast, pig roast, cake walk, annual variety show, weekly bingo, the Lotto 300 and more. MacKenzie said all these activities are necessary to keep the legion open.

There are about 140 members of the Wedgeport Legion, which includes 15 or so surroundin­g communitie­s.
