Man charged following report of gunshot wounds
The Yarmouth Town RCMP and Yarmouth Rural RCMP have charged a Yarmouth County man following a report of a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
On Aug. 26, Yarmouth Town RCMP learned a 22-year-old man from Yarmouth County had suffered gunshot wounds. The wounds were considered serious but not life-threatening and he was treated at the hospital.
The hospital alerted the RCMP to the incident.
“Members of Yarmouth Town RCMP, Yarmouth Rural RCMP,
Yarmouth/Clare Street Crime Enforcement Unit, Police Dog Services and the Yarmouth
Town General Investigation Section (GIS) began an investigation into the incident,” reads an RCMP media release. “Subsequent to this investigation, a 29-year-old man from South Ohio, Yarmouth County, and a 23-year-old woman from Yarmouth were arrested on Aug. 26, at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Quaco Rd. near Port Maitland without incident.”
RCMP investigators and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section also searched a South Ohio home on Aug. 27 in relation to the incident .
The woman was released last week after her arrest without charges. The man remained in custody following his first court appearance last week.
Joshua Dwayne Lawrence,
29, from South Ohio, appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court on Aug. 28 and was remanded into custody until Sept. 3. He is charged with Discharging a Firearm with Intent, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Careless Use of a Firearm.
His next court appearance was set for Sept. 3, after this newspaper’s press deadline.
The RCMP say in a media release that this “was not a random act as the parties were known to one another.”
The investigation is ongoing.
