Digby County Exhibition marks 140th anniversary
This year the Digby County Exhibition marked its 140th anniversary in Bear River.
4-H Days were held on the Aug. 20 and 21 with lots of fun activities and competitions held.
4-H members from Digby Maple Nuts, Sissaboo Landers, and Bear River Trailblazers competed in senior/junior beef, rabbit and oxen showmanship, Dog obedience, poultry, grand champion livestock Showmanship, woodworking, foods, crafts, photography, and scrapbooking competitions.
Throughout the week the exhibition held ox pulls and horse pulls, light horse shows, a silent auction, crafts/flowers/cooking/ fruits/vegetable exhibits and a 4-H display. The dining hall was open daily with breakfast, lunch and even a prepared meal during the evenings.
Entertainment was a big hit at the Ex, with musicians such as Al Dupuis, Eclectica, The Hillbilly Band, Windy Woods, Paul Ryan and music by Felix Deveau & Friends.
Saturday was the biggest day of the exhibition. The annual Family Day was held, with activities for kids and adults, as well as the enjoyment of music and carnival food. Face painting, games, prizes, colouring contests, and even a magic show were all held in the Commercial Building. The biggest hit of all was the classic ox pull, which drew in the biggest crowd.
The exhibition has always been known as a fun time to get together with friends and family to enjoy the animal shows and entertainment. A lot of improvements had been this past year, which included making the ladies’ washroom and pulling arena wheelchair accessible.
Those who put on the Digby County Exhibition extend thanks to all of the volunteers and sponsors, as well as the exhibitors and everybody who came out to support exhibition.
