Mavillette Beach RV Park to open in 2020

Only newer model RVs will be allowed — none older than 10 years

A new 2.4-hectare RV park will open in Digby County in 2020 with one of the best views in the province.

The site overlooks Mavillette Beach, with Cape View Motel and Cottages located on the east side.

Russ Wiebe and Carol Klessens, the developers behind the RV project, have owned and managed the seasonally operated 10-unit motel and cottages for a decade.

Wiebe says their RV park will differ from a campground in that only RVs will be allowed and they must book for the entire season (early May to late October). Cost is $3,000 plus tax. Although there will be no limit as to the size of each unit, only newer models will be allowed — none older than 10 years.

Each of the 33 full-service sites measures 44 feet wide and 60 to 65 feet long. They have 50-amp power service, full water, sewer and cable service. Owners have a large grassed area and room to park their car or truck in front.

“Some people have put deposits on lots already and there have been oodles of inquiries,” said Wiebe.

Phase 2 or 3 of the project could see a laundry and shower building added.

Formerly from Red Deer, Alta., Wiebe used to sell RVs and says he always wanted to operate an RV park.

Mavillette Beach is one of several locations in the region featured on Nova Scotia Webcams. The camera, directed at the beach, is mounted on the back of one of Wiebe’s motel buildings.

“We’re overlooking one of the prettiest beach parks in Nova Scotia. There aren’t too many beaches nicer than this one,” he said.

“We’ve got dunes, we’ve got sand and gravel, a wharf at one end, cliffs and caves at the other end. We’ve got it all,” said Wiebe.
