Busy weekend kicks off Yarmouth's holiday season
There's lots going on in the Town of Yarmouth this weekend.
The annual Christmas tree and Frost Park lighting, hosted by the town and municipality, will take place at Yarmouth Town Hall Friday, Nov. 22, at 6 p.m. Workers have spent many hours decorating trees, shrubs, the look-off and gazebo to create a Christmas wonderland. Carollers and hot chocolate will add to the experience.
Merry Madness – a onenight shopping event held on the same date – will be held in downtown Yarmouth. With the purchase of a ticket, participants receive a merchant passport, a chance to win a gift basket and a commemorative gift. Complimentary beverages or snacks will be available at various shops and food establishments. The event supports the Yarmouth Fuel Bank. Tickets are $15 and are available at City Drug Store, KJR Jewelry, Tooie’s Country Store or The Style Merchant on Hawthorne Street.
On Saturday, Nov. 23, Main Street, from Grand to Forest streets, will be closed from 1 to 9 p.m. to prepare for the Candy Cane Lane Festival, which takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. from Forest Street to Frost Park.
The event will feature stationary floats, walkers, displays and music. Festival guests will be able to bring items to donate to local charities, walk through Candy
Cane Lane and see the candy cane memorials on display in Frost Park. Visitors may access the festival from any of the side streets, as well as Frost Park or Forest Street.
Karen’s Candy Canes will have about 10 wheelchairs available for those who need a little extra help getting around the Candy Cane Lane event. Each wheelchair comes with a “candy cane assistant” who will navigate through the festival route so riders can enjoy an unobstructed view of the festival. Wheelchairs will be set up in and around the Collins Street and Alma Square area. For more info email: candycanelanefestival@gmail.com or call 902-307-9307.
