REOPENING
Alternative exercise during pool repair available in fitness centre, gymnasium and group fitness classes
Y Pool coming back.
The Yarmouth YMCA pool is expected to reopen on Jan. 11 after being closed for a month.
On Dec. 10 an incident on the pool deck with light fixtures required the pool to be shut down. The Y brought multiple contractors in to access the situation, provide advice on how to best proceed with the repairs and to give quotes on suggested repairs.
On Jan. 2, centre manager Aimee Daigle posted an update that the pool is in the process of being repaired. Once repairs are completed, the pool deck and pool will be cleaned and filled. The temperature will be brought to the correct level and chemicals will be balanced.
“The winter aquatics schedule will commence on Jan. 11,” said Daigle.
“This will include all lane swims, recreation swims, open swims, pool running, aquafit classes, etc.”
All swim lessons will be one week behind their original scheduled start date. Lessons scheduled to start Jan. 4 will instead begin Jan. 11. Lessons scheduled for Jan. 6 will instead begin Jan. 13 and so on.
Daigle said that even without the pool there are many ways to get active or social at the Y. Access to the fitness centre, gymnasium and group fitness classes is included with a membership. Those options are also available to anyone who purchases a day pass.
Members are also entitled to a free orientation to the fitness centre, with one of the fitness staff providing education about the equipment and helping to come up with a program that suits individual goals. The custom designed program is available to anyone ages 12 and over.
“If none of these options are suitable for you, we’re happy to put your membership on hold while you wait for the pool to reopen,” said Daigle.
