BARRINGTON 11 – DIGBY 0

The Digby Mariners made the trip to Barrington this past Friday night for the first game of the New Year for both teams. Barrington got on the board four minutes in and would score five more times in the first period. Goals were scored by Nolan Atwood (2), Jagger Kane, Justin Smith, Drew Goreham and Derek McCarthy, with singles assists from Nolan Atwood, Jagger Kane, Ethan Brannen, Tylan Foster, Ryan O’Callaghan, Jory Stewart and Teagan Scott.

The Barons scored twice more in the second period for the 8-0 lead. Scorers were Justin Smith and Jagger Kane. Assists were Jagger Kane, Ethan Brannen, Jory Stewart and Ryan O’Callaghan. The third period saw Barrington score 3 more goals. Scoring were Tylan Foster, Justin Smith (with his 3rd of the night) and Drew Goreham (with his second). Assists were from Owen Penney, Teagan Scott, Ethan Brannen, Drew Goreham, Jacob Matthews and Tylan Foster.

The final was 11-0 for the Barons. Barrington travels to Middleton on Saturday night to face the monarchs.

CLARE 5 – PAR-EN-BAS 4

The Clare Loups hosted the Par-en-Bas Sharks on Friday, Jan. 3 at the University Sainte Anne Arena. The Loups came out strong in the first period with the first 2 goals of the game scored by Nema Hanna and Simon Muise. The Shark’s Spencer Surette, however, was unstoppabl­e in front of the net, scoring 2 goals before the period ended leaving the first period in a tie.

The second period was a tough one for the Loups with a lot of penalties and no luck on the net. Yanick Cottreau and

Jay Deviller both scored for Paren-Bas, with the Sharks heading into the third period leading

4-2.

The third period was way more favourable for the Loups with Nathan Tufts scoring and then Jean-Luc Comeau scoring the tie goal. Nicholas LeBlanc scored with 8:14 left on the clock.

Par-en-Bas kept hammering the Loups goalie with shots and pulled their goalie with no success. The game ended with the Loups winning 5-4.

Both teams head to the Danny Dorrington Memorial Tournament this coming weekend in New Glasgow.

BARRINGTON 10 – MIDDLETON 3

Barrington's Jagger Kane undoubtedl­y vaulted himself in the points parade for the Valley High School Hockey League exploding for 5 goals and 2 assists in Barrington's 10-3 win over the Middleton Monarchs on the weekend. Kane started the scoring in the first, notching 2 more in the second period and 2 more in the third including the final with one tick left on the clock. Others scoring for the Barons were Keiran O'Connor 1 goal and 3 assists; Justin Smith and Ethan Brennan both with a goal and 2 assists; Cole Nickerson a goal and assist; Jory Stewart a goal; and Owen Penney an assist. Devon Nickerson tended the twines for the Barons.

Sam " Fancy " Fancey potted a pair of goals for the Monarchs, one late in the first to make it 2-1 after one and early in the second to make it 3-2 . Barrington poured it on in the second half of the game as MRHS was missing their top offensive threat Ryan Gates and their Captain Cory Johnson on the blueline, who were both nursing injuries. The 2nd period ended 7-2. CJ Martin scored unassisted on the PP early in the third for MRHS making it 7-3, which was as close as they got. Rookie Xavier Butt relieved Jesse Porteous late in the 3rd period in the Monarchs net. Barrington had 8 minor penalties while Middleton picked up only 3 in a relatively no-nonsense game.
