Municipal offices, facilities in Shelburne County closed until April 6

- CONTRIBUTED

All municipal offices and facilities in Shelburne County are closed until April 6 as an additional measure to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The decision was made following a teleconference call on March 17 involving the mayors/wardens and senior staff of the five municipal units, Emergency Measures Operations (EMO) personnel and a staff representative from EMO N.S.

The closure of the municipal offices and facilities in the towns of Clark’s Harbour, Shelburne and Lockeport, and the municipalities of Barrington and Shelburne will be reassessed as necessary.

Phone lines will be monitored by staff, who will also have access to email.

In addition, all non-essential services, such as bylaw enforcement, shall be reduced, in favour of more critical municipal services, including garbage collection and water and wastewater operations.

All municipal recreation related activities are suspended until further notice.

All municipal-related travel is suspended until further notice. Interest charges for the month of March are being waived.

The municipal units will continue to operate and provide essential services to its residents.

“We urge residents to check with their local unit to understand which services will continue and in which manner they will served,” states a press release. “We want to remind our residents that this is a time in which we need to come together and think about each other. Helping our neighbours and those most vulnerable, along with our personal safety, is necessary. There is no doubt that these challenging times can cause anxiety and stress but there is no need to panic. The residents of Shelburne County are resilient, considerate and supportive which will all help make the best of this situation.”
