Digby Care supports community elementary school and food bank
There was lots of food for thought as Digby Care 25 recently made a financial donation to Nourish Nova Scotia in support of the Digby Elementary School (DES), which has been without a functioning cafeteria for years.
The presentation made by Margo Reibe-Butt, of Nourish Nova Scotia, was in support of the reopening of the Digby Elementary School Cafeteria. It was made in late November after 101 Digby Care members contributed $3,130 towards the cause. The local Ultramar Energy office in Digby also contributed $500 in Sobey's gift certificates to help purchase food, following a post on social media. The total donation made in support of the cafeteria was $3,630.
"DES has been without a cafeteria for years, and through the generous and thoughtful work of Digby Care 25 and Nourish NS, this project is moving closer to becoming a reality,” said Digby Elementary School principal Michelle Tufts. “An operational cafeteria means a hot breakfast, healthy meals for students, and a sustainable reduced or free lunch program for families with food insecurities.”
She said the school is very thankful.
This wasn't the only donation supporting the need to feed others that was made in the fall of 2021. On Nov. 3, Digby Care 25 had presented a donation of $3,090 to the Digby and Area Food Bank.
