Nova Scotia Marathon a celebratio­n of running

Runners of all ages and abilities made their way to the start lines for the Nova Scotia Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 6K in Barrington on July 23.

For some, it was their first road race, while for others the flat terrain and cool ocean breezes on Cape Sable Island make it a favorite run.

The race results were as follows:

Wesley York, of Columbus, Ohio, was the first to cross the finish line in the full marathon with a time of 2:50:16. Ryan Keeping, of Upper Tantallon, was the second male overall, clocking in at 2:58:19. In third was Matt Taylor, of West LaHave, at 3:03:31.

Sacha Hourihan, of Sussex Corner, N.B. was the first female overall in the full marathon, posting a time of 3:08:58. Kim Scattolon, of Glace Bay, placed second in 3:27:19. Chelsea Quinlan, of Clam Point, was third with

3:28:48.

Jarvis Googoo, of Kjipuktuk, was the first overall male in the half-marathon with a time of 1:19:12. Coming in second was Donavon Nickerson, of Halifax, with a time of 1:21:04. In third place was Ian Surette, of Wedgeport, with a time 1:23:45.

Meaghan Strum, of Halifax, was the first overall female in the half marathon, posting a time of 1:23:01. The second overall female runner was Amber Corkum, of Lunenburg, at 1:40:11. Cindy O’Donnell, of Bear River,

was the third female to cross the finish line in the half at1:43:57.

10K male: 1st Teagan Scott, Barrington, 36:22;

2nd Kiel Mercer, Meteghan River, 42:31; 3rd Michael R. Thibodeau, Pender Island, B.C., 42:40.

10K female: 1st Katie Jerrett, Hacketts Cove, 39:56; 2nd Julia Muise, Tusket, 46:30; 3rd Sherri Goodwin, Yarmouth, 46:46.

6K male: 1st Dylan Hatfield, Harrington, 26:49; 2nd Jon Kozub, Lethbridge, AB, 27:45; 3rd Dylan Scott, Shag

Harbour, 28:12.

6K female: 1st Kaitlin Kozub, Lethbridge, AB, 30:00; 2nd Cindy Wickel, Boutiliers Point, 32:20; 3rd Connie Meister, New Ross, 33:20.

A total of 350 runners completed the four runs: the full marathon had 89 finishers; the half-marathon had 98; the 10K had 96, and the 6K had 67.
