The Congrès mondial acadien 2024 is being hosted by the Municipalities of Argyle and Clare, with events taking place there and in Yarmouth from Aug. 10 to 18.
The event will host more than 300 events and activities, and will pull together more than 50 families for official family reunions. CMA 2024 will present a diverse range of activities including concerts, conferences, gatherings, literary events, and vendor exhibitions in 28 communities throughout southwestern Nova Scotia.
Together with the CMA, the Town and Municipality of Yarmouth aim to promote, celebrate and preserve Acadian culture in the local community, Southwest Nova Scotia, and on a global scale, reads a media release. This unique partnership goes beyond the execution of CMA 2024. It aims to leave a lasting legacy by promoting cultural, economic and tourism development throughout the entire region.
"We are honoured to be able to support our friends and neighbours in the Municipalities of Argyle and Clare as they bring the CMA 2024 to the region,” says Pam Mood, Mayor of Yarmouth, and John Cunningham, Warden of the Municipality of Yarmouth.
“This event is huge for all of Southwest Nova Scotia and will be of great benefit culturally and economically," the officials said in a joint statement. "Our area has so much to offer, beginning with our top-notch hospitality, and we are excited to share all that we have with visitors and locals alike. Working together will help ensure the success of this iconic event to celebrate the strong Acadian roots of this region."
Allister Surette, president of the Congrès mondial acadien 2024's Organizing Committee, says they are extremely proud to partner with the Town and Municipality of Yarmouth as the event's Presenting Partner.
"We would like to express our deep gratitude for their generous contribution,” he says. “This partnership reflects our mutual commitment to leveraging the rich tapestry of Acadian culture as an economic driver while showcasing the region, its people, and, of course, an unprecedented celebration.
It's wonderful to see all our municipal partners at the table and working together to make Southwest Nova Scotia shine.
"Thanks to their unwavering commitment to our mission, this edition of the Congrès mondial acadien promises to be an unforgettable experience," says Surette.
Yarmouth will host some of the CMA's flagship events, such as the National Acadian Day Concert at the Yarmouth Airport on Aug. 15 and L'Ultime Tyme at the Mariners Centre on Aug. 17, as well as a variety of community events throughout the week.
