Lionel Sanders wins Ironman Arizona, defending his title.
Lionel Sanders sets the fastest time ever recorded at an Ironman race, finishing in 7: 44: 29. A guy who, a few years ago was always dead last out of the water in the pro race manages to come out of the water in 16th. He then posts the second-fastest bike split ever at an Ironman race, following it all up with a 2:42 marathon. This after two disappointing world championship appearances in Mooloolaba and Kona. It was all a very, very pleasant surprise.
