80 YEARS AND GOING STRONG

Triathlon Magazine Canada - - T1 - BY HELEN POWERS

PEOPLE OFTEN ASK CHARLIE BARNES HOW HE MANAGES TO KEEP GOING AND STAY SO FIT. THERE’S A GOOD REASON FOR THEIR CURIOSITY. BARNES STARTED TRIATHLONS WHEN HE WAS 61 AND HAS RACKED UP MORE THAN 60 COMPETITIONS IN THE LAST 20 YEARS. BUT LAST SEPTEMBER HE TOPPED ALL OF THAT WITH A PODIUM FINISH FOR THE 80–84 AGE GROUP SPRINT AT THE ITU WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.
