ITU World Triathlon Edmonton
Long a mainstay on the ITU circuit, this year’s seventh stop on the ITU World Triathlon Series takes place July 20 and 21. It will serve as a dry run for the 2020 ITU Grand Final, which will be the third time that Edmonton has hosted the world-championship event. Edmonton 2020 will take place from August 17 to 23 and feature sprint and standard-distance events for age groupers, along with the elite, junior and paratriathlon championships.
In addition to being able to check out the worlds course for 2020, this year’s race allows athletes to qualify for the age-group national team. There will be two spots up for grabs in each category for both the sprintand standard-distance races.
There will be lots of great action for age-group competitors to enjoy around their own racing in Edmonton, too – the WTS event promises to attract the world’s best short-distance triathletes in the hunt for valuable WTS points that are a critical component of Olympic qualification. Add to that Edmonton’s hosting of a Triathlon Mixed Relay Series event and you have the makings of a spectacular triathlon-lovers competition weekend – competition along with a chance to see some of the world’s best in action as they vie for a spot in Tokyo next year.
