Edmonton 2020
DO NORTH EDMONTON 2020
No other city in the world has hosted the ITU’s world championship three times. There’s a reason Edmonton has been a major player on triathlon’s race scene for over 20 years – unwavering community support and a fearless leader who inspires the community to welcome the world’s best triathletes every year. Find out how you can be part of the 2020 ITU World Championship.
IT’S COMING. Between August 17 and 23, 2020, just a few weeks after the world’s best will push themselves to the limits at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, they’ll be at it again at the International Triathlon Union World Triathlon Series Grand Final in Edmonton. Not to be outdone, thousands of the world’s fittest and fastest age group athletes will be on hand, too, in the hunt for their own world titles over the sprint and standard distance.
Edmonton is hardly a stranger to hosting big ITU races. After holding an ITU points race in 1999 and 2000, the city hosted the first world championships after the sport’s inaugural appearance at the Olympics in Sydney. After that success, Edmonton became a regular stop on the ITU’s world cup circuit. The worlds were back in Edmonton in 2014, an event that ITU president Marisol Casado declared “set a new standard for ITU.” The race was also named the “Best International Sporting Event in Canada – 2014” by Canadian Sport Tourism.
It should come as no surprise, then, that the ITU chose to celebrate another Grand Final in Edmonton, making it the only city to have ever hosted the Grand Final three times.
