ELITE FEMALE JOANNA BROWN

-

Triathlon Magazine Canada Elite Triathlete of the Year

Her bronze medal at the ITU World Triathlon Bermuda in April was certainly the highlight of her season, but her race at the ITU Grand Final in Lausanne might actually go down as the gutsiest performance of the year, even though she finished 34th in that race.

Just getting to the finish line in Lausanne was impressive – Brown was the only Canadian elite to do that in Switzerland. Coming out of the water she injured her toe, then somewhere on the bike she cut her leg. She shuffled through the run and got to the line, though, proving what we all knew – the Carp, Ont., native is as tough as she is talented.

In addition to her podium finish in

Bermuda, Brown netted top15 finishes in Hamburg and Montreal (there was a 16th in Leeds, too) and was a standout performer on Canada’s Mixed Team Relay as well.

Brown ended the WTS season in 11th (her Olympic ranking is 22nd), making her hands-down the highest ranked Canadian woman in both categories.
