WHAT’S NEW

-

Just what the likes of Lionel Sanders, Jan Frodeno, Daniela Bleymehl and Patrick Lange need – an even faster bike. Canyon announced an updated version of the Speedmax in November, just in time for Sanders and some other Canyon pros to debut the new ride at the PTO Championship in Daytona.

For those looking forward to racing on the Canyon speedster, starting this spring Canadians will be able to order Canyon bikes online here at home rather than having to work through Canyon USA.

The new Speedmax models were developed in collaboration with aerodynamics specialists Swiss Side.

Starting at at US$3,799, the CF Disc is an aero wonder – according to Canyon, it is only 0.2 watts slower in the wind tunnel than the bikes Frodeno and Lange used to win in Kona. In addition to the remodelled tube design, the CF Disc features “a new Bento box, a new toolbox above the bottom bracket and an aerodynamically optimized fork with flat-mount disc brakes.” The bikes feature Profile Design parts “for high levels of adjustability,” and some models will come with power meters.

For those looking for the highest end of the Speedmax family, the top-end models test 9 to 10 watts faster than the previous Speedmax versions. In addition to being more aerodynamic, the frame is also lighter, stiffer and said to handle better, “thanks to improved weight distribution – the result of the smart integration of the hydration system and toolbox into the carbon structure,” according to Canyon.

These new high-end models also provide lots of adjustability for athletes who are doing their own setup or with a bike fitter. All come with a power meter.—KM
