LYNNE BERMEL (NEE MCALLISTER)

-

The Speedster Late 1980s to Late 1990s

Many Canadian triathlon fans may know of Carol Montgomery, who made the transition from track runner to one of the world’s fastest short course triathletes, but not as many fans know of Ottawa’s Lynne Bermel. Like many athletes, she was introduced to triathlon as a way of keeping fit while recovering from a running injury. The recovery plan was so successful that a few years later, the Canadian Armed Forces Captain decided to become a professional triathlete. It was a sensible decision as she continued to improve and travelled the world as a pro and had some great results including at Ironman Canada, where she placed second in 1994 and 1995.
