Local boaters and canoeists taking trips along the Rideau River itself will need to check for zebra mussels. Results released from a 26-year study of the Rideau River system show the invasive species has “taken over” the system, which is ideal for zebra mussel growth. There a few isolated areas left in the Rideau River where native mussel species still thrive.
