FORMER MUNICIPAL DAY CARE AVAILABLE IN L’ORIGNAL
A former municipal daycare in Champlain Township is now surplus property and may soon be available for purchase.
Champlain Township council declared the Derby Street building and grounds for La HBSEFSJF $IBNQMBJO %BZ /VSTFSZ BT TVSQMVT property, during its December 11 public meeting. The site of the former municipal daycare has been vacant for the past two years.
Township administration arranged for an appraisal of the property to help decide what to do with it. The building and grounds have served since 1973 as daycare operation with municipal support. Renovation work was done five years ago. Administration also noted there has been one inquiry whether the property is available for purchase.
The property is zoned for institutional use and the appraisal report noted that it is still suitable for a care service similar to its former use or could be converted for housing. The report estimated a potential market value of $128,000 though township administration noted that the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation’s own assessment of the value could be higher. —Gregg Chamberlain
