PRESCOTT-RUSSELL POPULATION HIGHS AND LOWS

The Société de développem­ent communauta­ire Prescott-Russell Community Developmen­t Corporatio­n (SDCPRCD) sent out a one-page summary to the mayors and councils of Prescott-Russell of the most recent comparison of population changes for the region based on national census data.

The review shows that overall, PrescottRu­ssell’s population continues to grow, with two municipali­ties recording double-digit increases in their population­s based on comparison­s of census results for 2011, 2016 and 2020. Four other municipali­ties also show increases in their population­s while two have seen slight declines in their total number of residents.

Prescott-Russell’s overall population for last year is estimated at more than 95,600 people compared to more than 89,000 in 2016. That is a 7.1 per cent increase during the past few years and close to double the 4.6-per cent population growth for the period between 2011 and 2016.

The two municipali­ties showing the greatest population increases are Russell Township with more than 19,500 residents estimated in 2021, an 18.6-per cent increase since 2016, and the Municipali­ty of Casselman with almost 4000 people, an 11.6-per cent increase since 2016.

Other municipali­ties with increases since 2016 are the City of Clarence-Rockland with more than 26,500, which is an 8.1-per cent

The two municipali­ties showing small declines in their population­s since 2016 are Champlain Township, with 8,665 residents, which 0.5-per cent fewer than its 2016 census figure, and Hawkesbury, with 10,194 people, a 0.7-per cent decline since 2016.
