Stewart’s three hits key for Mastodons
SASKATOON — The East Hants Mastodons picked up another victory on Friday to improve to 4-1 at the Canadian senior men’s fastpitch championship.
The Mastodons rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Saskatchewan #1 5-3. Brookfield’s Patrick Stewart went 3-for-3 and scored a run for the Mastodons, while Stewiacke’s Jay Duffy also scored. Jonah Wright homered in the win and Nick Shailes added a key two-run single in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3. The Mastodons pulled ahead to stay with two runs in the sixth. Donnelly Archibald, in relief of Travis Nevin, was the winning pitcher.
The Mastodons are second in their pool, behind the undefeated Galway Hitmen of Newfoundland (4-0).
East Hants played Alberta’s Grande Prairie Pirates (3-1) last night.
On Thursday night, the Mastodons downed the Bruno Merchants from Saskatchewan 8-1.
Jeff Ellsworth homered, doubled and drove in a run, while Duffy doubled and had an RBI and Brookfield’s Coby Crowell singled and drove in a run. Joel Isenor went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Nevin went the distance and scattered eight hits.
