Ste­wart’s three hits key for Mastodons

SASKATOON — The East Hants Mastodons picked up another vic­tory on Fri­day to im­prove to 4-1 at the Cana­dian se­nior men’s fast­pitch cham­pi­onship.

The Mastodons ral­lied from a 3-0 deficit to de­feat Saskatchew­an #1 5-3. Brook­field’s Pa­trick Ste­wart went 3-for-3 and scored a run for the Mastodons, while Stewiacke’s Jay Duffy also scored. Jonah Wright home­red in the win and Nick Shailes added a key two-run sin­gle in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3. The Mastodons pulled ahead to stay with two runs in the sixth. Don­nelly Archibald, in re­lief of Travis Nevin, was the win­ning pitcher.

The Mastodons are sec­ond in their pool, be­hind the un­de­feated Gal­way Hit­men of New­found­land (4-0).

East Hants played Al­berta’s Grande Prairie Pi­rates (3-1) last night.

On Thurs­day night, the Mastodons downed the Bruno Mer­chants from Saskatchew­an 8-1.

Jeff Ellsworth home­red, dou­bled and drove in a run, while Duffy dou­bled and had an RBI and Brook­field’s Coby Crow­ell sin­gled and drove in a run. Joel Isenor went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Nevin went the dis­tance and scat­tered eight hits.
