Portapique man ned more than $700 for distressing birds
TRURO, N.S. — A Portapique man has been convicted of causing distress to doves and chickens through starvation and dehydration.
Patrick Kayser, 42, was charged under the Animal Protection Act with causing distress to four doves and nine chickens between Dec. 1–22, 2016. He was ned $716.48 during a hearing Tuesday in provincial court in Truro.
Court heard that the doves and chickens had likely not been fed for seven days and their water dispenser was frozen solid when inspected by authorities.
Three related charges were dismissed by the Crown.
