Truro Legion selling raffle tickets to help local charities
Tickets for sale at the Truro legion give people the chance to win a basket filled with gift certificates, along with an opportunity to help three local organizations.
The basket contains more than $500 in gift cards and certificates from a variety of local businesses. The fundraiser was organized to provide a turkey dinner to guests from the Truro Homeless Outreach Society, Colchester Food Bank, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
“This is a new project, and it’s heartwarming to see how the community stepped up to support it,” said Sandra Dill, who is with the public relations committee at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26.
“We know there are people who could benefit from this, and the legion is reaching out like it did historically, showing kindness and support.”
The legion contributed space for the dinner, the Atlantic Superstore is providing food, and volunteers will be cooking and serving, so any extra funds raised will help with programs run by the non-profit groups. Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased in the legion bar.
Draw date is Oct. 8.
