Bearcats win pair at Show­case event

Myles Hek­tor made 22 saves and the Truro Bearcats edged the St. Stephen Aces 2- 1 on Tues­day at the Mar­itime Ju­nior Hockey League Show­case event in New Glas­gow.

Karter Re­nouf scored the win­ning goal at 17: 49 of the sec­ond pe­riod. Kyle Sex­ton, on a power play, also scored for Truro. Bran­don Costa had the lone St. Stephen goal.

It was the sec­ond Show­case win for the Bearcats, com­ing af­ter a 3-1 vic­tory over Mi­ramichi on Mon­day.

Dy­lan Bur­ton, Kyle Sex­ton ( PP) and Luke Macmil­lan net­ted Truro mark­ers and Hek­tor made 31 saves.

Charles-an­dre Cyp­i­hot scored for the Tim­ber­wolves.

The Show­case fea­tured 12 games played over two days, pit­ting Eastlink North Divi­sion teams against those from the Eastlink South.

In ac­tion last week, the Bearcats blanked the Pic­tou County Crush­ers 3- 0. Sex­ton, Jack Mcgovern ( PP) and Re­nouf scored goals for the Bearcats and Hek­tor stopped 30 shots for the shutout.

In an­other game, Bearcats blew a late third-pe­riod lead and fell 4-3 to the Yar­mouth Mariners.

Truro led 3- 2 be­fore Brett Cross­ley – with his sec­ond of the con­test – scored for Yar­mouth with 2: 20 left in the third to tie it.

Matt Bar­ron fired the win­ner for the Mariners two min­utes later to cap the come­back.

Mcgovern, Gavin Hart ( SH) and Will Mizuik had mark­ers for the Bearcats, while Matthew Bor­ing had the other goal for the Mariners.

Bearcats goal­tender Alec Mac­don­ald made 28 saves in the loss.

The Bearcats ( 6- 3- 0- 0) host the Ed­mund­ston Bliz­zard on Fri­day for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
