New siding in the works for SHRU building

- BY HARRY SULLIVAN

A Harmony contractor has won the bid to replace siding on the Special Hazards Response Unit (SHRU) building on Pictou Road in Bible Hill.

A bid of $50,920 (plus HST) submitted by Mark Bonnell’s Contracting Services was the lowest of four received by the Municipality of Colchester.

e building, which is owned by the municipality, is used to store special hazard response equipment used by SHRU.

A staff report submitted to council said the existing siding has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. e state of siding has led to some leaks along the east and west walls, the

report said.

Council had previously approved a capital budget of $35,000 for the siding work along with another $20,000 which was to be used to replace the siding and windows in an adjoining building that is used as an Emergency Coordination Centre. Because the cost of the siding came in higher than expected, however, the work on the other building has been postponed until next year.
