Somebeachs­omewhere goes to Hall of Fame

Truro Raceway launches November cards with eight dashes this Sunday

Legendary world champion pacer, Somebeachs­omewhere will be inducted posthumous­ly into the Nova Scotia Hall of Fame on Friday, Nov. 2 at the Halifax Convention Centre.

The Atlantic Canada harness racing icon is the rst equine personalit­y to be inducted. is charismati­c and physical specimen, boasting an array of talents, was foaled May 25, 2005 and later sold at the Lexington Select Yearling Sale on Oct. 4, 2006 as hip #266 for $40,000 to Schooner Stable, comprised of Brent Macgrath, Garry Pye, Stu Rath, Reg Petipas, Pamela Dean and Jamie Bagnall.

During his illustriou­s and unparallel­ed career, “The Beach” started 21 times, logging 20 wins and earning $3.328 million. His life’s best was over e Red Mile in Lexington, Ky., covering the ground for a personal and world record for three-year-olds of 1:46.4 with regular teamster Paul MacDonell between the wheels.

Caretakers charged with the awesome job of tending to his daily care and maintenanc­e to keep this brilliant star happy and healthy were Rhonda Macgrath and JeanLouis Arsenault.

Somebeachs­omewhere rewrote the history books elevating the face of harness racing world-wide. A few of his previous accolades include: Harness Racing Living Hall of Fame in both U.S. and Canada; Dan Patch Pacer of the Year; and Obrien Awards Horse of the Year, twice. After retiring from the track to stud, Somebeachs­omewhere was euthanized on Jan. 14, 2018 following a short battle with cancer and was laid to rest at the Hanover Shoe Farm in Pennsylvan­ia.

Truro Raceway will be continuing with the exciting and fast-paced fall meet, kick-starting November this Sunday with eight dashes of entertaini­ng harness racing action. Post time is 1 p.m. Qualifying sessions are scheduled for 11:45 a.m.

Pam Mackenzie, Purina Certi ed Equine consultant, will be on hand trackside this Sunday afternoon to make the 2018 Hot Horse and Cool Drivers presentati­ons.
