Team Jones turns in quite a showing

- TRURO NEWS STAFF

The clock struck midnight right around 6 p.m. Saturday for Nova Scotia’s Cinderella team.

The Kaitlyn Jones foursome – who surprised many by winning three of four games in round-robin play at the Grand Slam of Curling’s 2018 Canadian Beef Masters – were defeated 7-3 in seven ends by the Chelsea Carey rink of Edmonton in a quarter-final matchup at the RathEastlink Community Centre.

The loss eliminated the Jones foursome from further competition. With Jones as skip, the team included cousins, lead Lindsey Burgess of Truro and second Karlee Burgess of Hilden, along with third Lauren Lenentine. The team is current defending world junior champion and played at the event under a sponsor’s exemption.

After blanking the first frame, Team Jones put two up in the second and came close to making it three.

Team Carey then took over, putting up two, one and two points in the third, fourth and fifth.

Team Jones managed one in the sixth but two more by Carey gave them the 7-3 victory.
